THE CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE

Our program is designed to meet the needs of every Nueva student – for intellectual challenge, discovery, and support.

The core curriculum explores society and culture through art, literature, music, film, and history – fostering the powers of critical analysis and insight. The expanded curriculum and electives include creative writing, graphic arts,  performance, dance (history and technique), digital photography, digital recording, and traditional studio art. We have established community partnerships with museums, community theater, marketing firms, and educational facilities within Sonoma County.

Students take three core classes – English, History, and Arts. The 2-year curriculum includes a year of American Studies (U.S. History & Culture, American Literature, and American Arts) and a year of World Views & Values (Government/Econ, World Lit, and Art & Aesthetics).

Multicultural and global arts and literature are integrated with the study of history, politics, and current events.  Film and media are used not only as teaching tools but as the subject of analysis and study.  Projects, performances, and community partnerships provide opportunities for hands-on experience and for practical, real-world application of our students’ learning, understanding and original ideas.

Our CTE Production Design classes serve as a business and entrepreneurship class for young creatives.  Through Production Design 1 and 2, students will work within Adobe and Canva creative apps to learn skills, and personal branding.  Production Design is also a scaffold to help students navigate their Work Based Learning projects, providing opportunities to build and maintain modern resumes, digital and a physical portfolios.
